Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is continuing to prepare for his final exam, so we continued to practice problems, especially some that he was having trouble with in the extra practice sections in his textbook for chapters 79 picking up where we left off last time. We worked on problems involving proofs of similar triangles, proportions, and angles of elevation and depression. He was having a little difficulty understanding the difference between congruence and similarity, so we worked on many problems showing the difference."
"The student had a makeup quiz to report on the next day and also a final in Physics. The topic in physics he needed help on was vectors. We went through the exercises in the vectors quiz that he selected. He told me that the teacher wanted him to report on the makeup quiz orally, focusing only on how he would improve his approach on the exercises he missed the first time. We practiced how he would do that for some of the examples. At the end of the session we went through the most important rules that he needed to keep in mind for the quiz and for the test."
"The student and I met from 1 to 2:30. We worked on two of his Algebra worksheets and spent time reviewing for his Algebra final. We focused on conics and rational functions. We will be meeting again on Monday."
"We reviewed the ACT math strategies and practiced doing a specific type of algebra problem problems involving money and coins. We practiced translating these word problems into algebraic terms and then solving them to get the right answer. I also assigned the student homework/practice problems so that he would maintain the skills he learned."
"The student worked on an algebra packet covering linear equations He defined the terms such as commutative property of multiplication. He has an upcoming quiz on Friday, so we worked on the review packet. We reviewed solving equation by substitution, elimination, and graphing, and went back and corrected problems that were solved incorrectly. For example, we corrected a problem that was caused by adding a negative instead of subtracting a negative"
"This session mainly focused on revision of previous session that dealt with surface area of various shape. We went through same stuff as last session plus some new techniques that helped the student to increase the understanding about how surface area is calculated and what does it mean. This session focused on preparing him for the upcoming quiz related to surface area."
"This was the first session where we touched chemistry. We specifically reviewed a lab that the student was assigned to turn in. During the session we covered the lab in detail and I explained to him what each aspect of the lab meant."
"Analogies practice p. 158. Choose the best answer. Be careful of double meanings
Reading comprehension p. 144. Write down the main idea before doing questions.
Math p. 160"

"Today we went over some of the Physics concepts that they will be covering in this unit. They are starting to go over heat and thermal expansion. We also looked into some of the Geometry topics that they will be covering."
"The student and I continued to talk about the characters in Artemis Fowl, and he has an essay on them due next session. We also began reading comprehension questions, which will be a good way to begin to boast reading standardized test scores."
"The student and I began the session by going over his Math homework. The assignment consisted of adding and subtracting decimals. Next, we worked on editing his JFK essay that we began to compose some time ago."
"The student and I worked through the math questions that gave her trouble on this week's homework. We covered many topics including very difficult circle problems, difficult word problems w/ coordinate planes, special right triangles, very difficult algebra word problems and constant problems with 3 variables (which we will start off with next time). We spent the last part of the session discussing her options for the ACT, which she will take a practice test for this weekend. I gave her an intro (info + strategy) and discussed how the exam carries over skills, etc."
