Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we went over science and English tests. We talked about strategy for the test on Saturday. She is ready to go--but it's important that she not rush through or get overwhelmed. There are other online tests she can look at if she wants additional practice that she knows how to access."
"The student and I mostly looked through her math homework. Most of the problems she missed were pretty difficult, which was comforting. We focused on geometry and systems of equations today. Wednesday will be our last session before the test on the 25th, so we will go through any topics that need a final review."
"Yesterday, the student and I went over all the sections. He did well on reading and science. He still struggled with math and English, so we reviewed some strategies and concepts. Last week, I had given him online practice quizzes to take. I told him this week to complete a timed section for each of the 4 sections to practice his timing and I told him to look over the strategies and concepts we discussed."
"Today we looked at math problems from practice tests 9 and 10. We covered a range of topics and difficulty and fell into a really good rhythm, and the student continues to show improvement in both strategy and knowledge of concepts."
"We went through test taking strategies. We talked about how there's not a trick to master the test, but rather the point is to work logically through the information given, and then answer the questions. We talked a lot about turning words and tables into meaningful charts and drawings. I emphasized the need to fully understand the main idea or bottom line of the information before answering the questions."
"I had my first session with this student today. She is preparing for both the SAT and the ACT. Today we worked on ACT math and I helped her through one of the sections to get an idea of her abilities right now. I think that with the tutoring and if she dedicates herself to studying, she can do well. We spent the whole session on math today, and I asked her to complete the section we started today before our next session on Wednesday."
"The student improved a great deal today. On her timed English test, she earned a scaled score of 28, a nearly six point increase from our first session! On her timed essay, I would given her a score of 4, another significant jump from the 2 on her first essay. She is taking the test on Saturday, so we are trying to squeeze in as many sessions in as possible."
"Focused on the Math section of the ACT, reviewing practice test questions, geometry, fractions, and so on. The student seems to understand most of the problems and what they are asking of him. He should continue general practice for the ACT in addition to reviewing grammar."
"The student had a couple of math questions she wanted to go over based off of a practice test she had done previously. She additionally went over another English practice test and half of a science. She is still continuing to score in the 30s and is doing well overall."
"Today we drilled for the science and math sections. For the math section, we discussed such topics as properties of trig ratios, solving equations involving fractions, and computing volumes of geometric solids. No concerns to report."
"We scored the Math and English sections the student completed over the weekend. He has made significant progress in his basic arithmetic, mathematical thought processes/logic, and geometry skills. With continued review and practice, he should have little problem getting at least a 25 on the Math section."
"The student and I started off tonight discussing the ACT format and general test-prep strategies. We then went through a crash-course in trigonometry, the only ACT subject matter in which she has no experience."
