Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During today's session, the student and I had more review for a test in probability. I provided her with a list of probabilities' properties to study. I also came up with a few practice problems, and we reviewed them in the session."
"The student was one point away from passing his class final. He was granted a retake for 6/2. So we spent the session preparing for his final retake. The session ran long in order to cover all the material."
"Today the student sent me a few problems via email, and she ended up solving them as I explained them via email. Her final is tomorrow, so we did review for that as well."
"Today, the student and I went over a review sheet in order to prepare for a math test he has tomorrow. We practiced one or two problems each from the sections that he felt he needed the most help in. He seemed to be prepared for most of his test as he felt confident with the majority of the review sheet. I advised him to ask his teacher about the questions we were unable to get to due to time constraints."
"The student received an A on the test last week, and with that, his grade average went up. Congratulations! Today, he had homework on graphing quadratic functions, using vertex and factored forms of the equation. When an equation is in vertex form, we can find out the vertex just from looking at the equation. When an equation is in factored form, we can find out the x-intercepts very fast. I would suggest that he work more on finding the positive and negative intervals, finding the range, and finding the intervals of increase and decrease before the next quiz on Friday. I hope he does well on the quiz."
"The student was ready when I arrived. I told him how much I appreciated this. We started on Geometry (proving quadrilaterals are parallelograms). He had already started the assigned homework with success. As the problems became more difficult, he had some difficulty with determining how to start proofs. We discussed strategies on approaching proofs, including the "throw spaghetti" approach (try different methods until you hit on the right one). He showed improvement by the end of the session. I asked him to complete the remaining homework problems. He appears to have a good grasp of the theory in this assignment group. Overall, I see that his grades are making a positive trajectory since we have started working together."
