Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student had finished the writing for this week which was wonderful. We just reviewed the introduction and the conclusion. I put some reminders to him down on paper about what the intro and conclusion should have. We revised the writing together and add/changed some things. He is working on the editing and starting a new writing prompt on his own for the next session."
"We went over important information about scanning and key word processes for how to gather answers as quickly as possible from the text and notes saved in his binder. We also went over confidence techniques and being willing to be wrong. I helped him with vocabulary development techniques. etc."
"Today we did a diagnostic tests. The student struggles with grammar, vocab and rushing through words. She likes to read. I included a break and we played Simon says to keep things interesting. I told her to bring a notebook and colored pencils/pencil to the next session."
"We worked on the Rhetorical Analysis paper that the student is constructing. We analyzed two student papers and made detailed notes on the strengths and weaknesses of them. We then organized the argument she would make for her comparison and contrasting paper. Good session."
"We began by reviewing letter sounds. We read Pinkalicious Puptastic and the student did well with CvC words. We wrote and drew a story about a dog using mostly CvC words. She practiced reading and writing the words we have reviewed so far. She did very well. We reviewed -EN words and began the -IG word family."
"We completed the outline and reviewed the Industrial Revolution material. Next session, we will go over the draft of the student's essay and do any needed review for history in preparation for the exam. Early prep is the best strategy for long term history retention, especially if it can be shown to build on itself!"
