Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over topics for his test on Friday. We quickly reviewed sequences and series while focusing mostly on the convergence/divergences of series. We also covered convergence tests like the p-series test, limit comparison test, etc. For the last 30 minutes, he practiced evaluating definite and indefinite integrals."
"We went over chapter 3 and prepared for the quiz for tomorrow. She gets the concept. She is very good!"
"The student and I completed a series of exercises for his upcoming exam. We reviewed angles and the variations in degrees. We moved on to reviewing estimating division patterns. We finished with learning the concept of negative numbers. He did very well with his first time working with negative numbers."
"The student and I covered the various ways which can be used to approximate the area under a curve. Including the right end point method, the left end point method, the midpoint method, and the trapezoid method. We also touched briefly upon Simpson's method."
"Today the student and I worked on graphing. We went through what the slope of a line is, the point-slope formula, and how to graph lines. We also determined how to make parallel and perpendicular lines and how to find the y-intercept. She finished her homework."
"Today the student and I continued to review simple algebraic expressions. It's amazing how much more comfortable he was with them this week compared to last week! I certainly think that he's doing well."
"The student possessed two Algebra test reviews and one worksheet on inequalities. We started with the first Algebra Test Review. We covered question problems requiring the ability to translate word sentences in to algebraic equations and vice versa. He did well with this. Next, we covered sequences and patterns. He did well recognizing patterns. Next we worked on his inequality worksheet. He is very proficient with reading word problems and setting up inequalities to represent them."
"We reviewed for the student's test tomorrow on properties of equality, solving equations, and distributing and factoring terms. She did very well, and seems to have excellent command of the material. She has also seen improvement in her past 2 quizzes relative to before the sessions started. We discussed appropriate budgeting of time during tests."
"He went through his homework on using systems of equations to solve word problems. He focused on translating the problems directly from words to equations, and he greatly improved by the end of our session."
"The student and I worked through two sets of homework problems, including concepts about trapezoids, bisectors, altitudes, and congruency. We also practiced using a protractor to measure angles correctly. The more difficult problems for her involved algebraic equations, particularly those where an angle was represented by an equation. We weren't able to finish the homework due to time, but she felt confident she would be able to finish the remaining problem tomorrow."
"I went over long division and synthetic division of polynomials with her, and then we worked through a bunch of the problems from section 6-3 of her text. She picked up on both methods of division very quickly, and we were able to work through more than I thought we would be able to. I am frequently impressed by how quickly she is able to pick up on things. I asked her to get the copy of her old test from her teacher tomorrow, so now that she is back in school, we can hopefully do a review and get her ready to retake that quiz for a better score."
"The student and I worked on factoring and solving for the x-intercept. She did very well, and overall really can do the problems and will get the right answer!"
