Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Once the student dived into her homework, she was incredibly creative and a ton of fun. She is very smart and very resourceful when attacking her homework. She picks concepts up quickly. As we move forward, we're continuing to focus on working on her spelling."
"Worked on writing paragraphs for science. Was able to write with ease about topic. He stayed on topic and was able to make sound paragraphs mostly on his own."
"We created an outline for a longer paper the student will be working on over the course of several sessions. We also went over using context to determine what unknown words might mean."
"The student's only reading homework was a worksheet on Number the Stars, which she completed. Then she had science homework due tomorrow, so she worked on it. It was identifying the function of different parts of a plant cell. We found some information online. Then we played Super Speed and got more sight word practice; she was very focused. Finally I introduced an activity where I record her reading for two minutes, then she listens back to it and evaluates her fluency. Next time, I'll leave more time for this activity because she said it was helpful."
"The student and I worked on spelling and reading comprehension of expository text. We used underlining and highlighting to help better understand the text. We also studied word patterns of difficult words."
"The student worked on her homework from the book Maniac Magee, and covered a variety of topics that included comprehension, text-to-text connections, text-to-world connections, inferences, questions about the text and vocabulary. Her attitude was great and it seemed like she enjoyed the book and had a great understanding of it as well. The only thing it seemed she needed help with was vocabulary. We worked on a strategy of looking up a word you don't know right when you come across it (as opposed to leaving it on a list) and she learned what text-to-text and text-to-world references are. Additionally, we worked on understanding an inference and how to cite text-based evidence for them. It was a great first session that gave me a lot of insight into how to help her in the future. Next session, we will work on this and her work for the book Chains."
