Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Introductory session. Worked with both the 2 students together-- Covered students' needs for future tutoring. Also discussed with parent and student the desired course of study. Completed freewriting exercise (5 minutes). Completed targeted writing exercise with a writing prompt (5 minutes). Will expand these two exercises in future sessions."
"We worked on paragraph writing with the stop light method. The student was able to navigate writing a paragraph with details on his own! We also worked on a story map."
"The student and I worked on his writing homework tonight. He was assigned a work sheet on apostrophes and where they should be used. We also finished his science homework and his weekly math problem."
"I covered verbs, verb phrases, and gerunds with the student, in addition to reviewing previously learned parts of speech and grammar concepts. I had him complete a couple worksheets as follow up for verification of newly learned material. Next, he read a brief article about metal detectors, followed by a worksheet checking his comprehension. He did well on the multiple-choice section. I want to challenge and stretch his ability to write with more details. I told him we would do more creative projects to help him stay engaged in his academic endeavors. I am going to have him practice with increasingly more difficult material to help him perform better as a student."
"We concentrated most of the session on English Conversion skills using real life situations for the conversations. I also threw in a few mini-lessons on when to s, es, ies, for plurals and simple verb tenses."
"The student and I went over some grammatical and spelling errors on his Hercules paper. We then discussed his summary. For the rest of the lesson, we made more progress on his rewrite of the Colonial medicine paper."
