Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked more on Chapter 4.2, with a focus on experimental design, lurking variables and the placebo effect. We also reviewed all of the material for his Chapter 4.1 quiz the following day, including a quick review of the terms and some more practice problems from his textbook."
"We began taking a practice test. The student's performance improved on the verbal section. We added words to his vocabulary list so that he could make flashcards of unfamiliar words. For homework, I asked him to finish the practice test, and to take it under actual testing conditions."
"Topics covered: optimization word problems: setting up relationships to find minimum or maximum values for variables. Discussed with the student a new plan for working to bring her grades up."
"Went over some analytical reasoning problems from the official LSAT that the student took. Covered how to diagram logic sentences and the basic logical transformations encountered on the LSAT (inverse, converse, contrapositive) and how to work with them. Covered vocabulary keywords to look for in identifying sufficient and necessary conditions ("if," "when"; "only," "requires,"; etc.)."
"During this session, we discussed tips to help the student on tomorrow's exam. I assisted her in completing questions from a practice test. I did not see any scores/grades, however, she informed me that her overall grade in the class, has improved. Her mother shared that she made a good score on the assignment we worked on last week. Today, she needed help with plotting points on a graph. She also still has multiplication practice worksheets, to work on once a day."
"Today the student got completely caught up on his assignments for the final project. He completed Money Monday 6 and Money Monday 7. He continues to show progress in retaining the skills he is learning, such as decision making grids. He told me that he started out nervous about this huge final project when it was first assigned, but now as he is accomplishing everything, he feels much more confident."
