Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over her previous exam, which was the first of the third quarter. During the next session, we will outline a chapter review together so that I can understand how she is making sense of new information. The next exam is in February."
"Yesterday we went over more stoichiometry. This was a section in which we were trying to reinforce the concepts."
"The student and I reviewed concepts of equilibrium, as well as acids and bases. They recently started acids and bases in class, however they have not gotten to the acid/base equilibrium problems yet, which is where that topic gets to be the most difficult. Since she needs to be solid on equilibrium for acids and bases (and acid/base equilibrium is a favorite AP Chem test topic), we first reviewed equilibrium together so that she would be comfortable with setting up ice tables and solving for concentrations of reactants or products at equilibrium. Afterwards, we covered strong vs weak acids and bases and how to write out ionizations and dissociations, and finally looked at two problems comparing finding the pH for a strong acid vs. a weak acid (equilibrium situation). She could benefit from additional practice setting up ICE tables, since it seems like the set-up is what is giving her the most trouble currently (or the approach to a problem that is thrown at her). I plan to work on helping her develop her skills to analyze problems to quickly figure out a good approach."
