Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I reviewed her geometry homework. The homework covered secants and tangents and the measure of the angles of intersecting tangents and secants. She had a pretty good grasp of the concepts at play and did well in solving the problems. She has a test on this final chapter next week, so we will begin reviewing everything at our next meeting."
"The student wanted to meet to ask any last minute questions he had before his exam. He had two prior chapter tests; one on which he did really well that covered reflections and rotations and the other was finding arc measures, angle measures, and chord lengths of circles. He had very few specific questions about the first test, so we just reviewed over the entire test briefly. We spent more time working through the problems of the other test. He also had a few other questions regarding tessellations and other miscellaneous things. Overall, he felt good about the test."
"We studied for the test on geometric mean, and all the different ways that the teacher can ask the questions."
"We worked on equations using square roots, similar triangles, ratios, proportions, and finding the lengths of missing sides of triangles using ratios. The student has a good understanding of the material, but had trouble with understanding how to simplify expressions using square roots. I worked with him on several strategies for how to simplify expressions using square roots such as breaking down large numbers into factors that include a square number. He understands how to use ratios and proportions to solve the problems and works best when he can visualize the problem so I encouraged him to break down the problem on his own using a separate piece of paper."
"He is a very polite student and seems to have a good grasp of the material. We had a lot to cover in a short period. We were able to do most of the geometry. Hopefully he got enough exposure to the ideas that he will be comfortable for tomorrow's exam."
"During this session, we began reviewing the student's math review packet. She needs some polishing up on these topics. We will continue to work on these concepts."
