I’ve always had a passion for learning, and I love helping students realize their own potential both in and out of the classroom. As a tutor, my goal is to inspire confidence and encourage a passion for education and life long learning. Because every student learns differently, I believe it is important to come up an individualized learning plan that best fits a student’s unique need, and that challenges and excites them. I also believe in laughter and I believe that learning should be enjoyable. That’s why I incorporate activities and games into a tutoring session, and I relate what we’re learning to real life events and context.
After graduating from a small private school in Portland, Maine, I received my bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from Wheaton College in Massachusetts. I am an experienced tutor and teacher and I have worked with students in grades 2 through 8. I spent a year working at an International School in Stuttgart, Germany where I taught middle school language arts, humanities, and English as a second language. I currently work with a literacy nonprofit in a local Charlotte-Mecklenburg elementary school. On a daily basis, I work individually with students in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th who are struggling with reading. Starting this January 2017, I will also be pursuing a master’s degree in special education.
In my free time, I enjoy staying active and exploring the world. I’m an avid runner and soccer enthusiast, and I have a passion for travel. I have been to 25 countries and counting! I also enjoy settling down with a cup of coffee and a good book. My favorite children’s book is The Phantom Tollbooth.
