Hello, my name is Al and I was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. As a child I was always interested in science and medicine. After receiving my M.D. last spring I decided to postpone my post-graduate training to pursue other avenues of the healthcare industry.
My experience tutoring goes back to my college days when I used to work for Kaplan Test Prep. I taught SAT Math and Verbal and other subjects like Geometry, Algebra, AP Biology, and AP General Chemistry.
I am a very laid back yet enthusiastic tutor who is very patient with his students. My teaching style is mostly visual and kinesthetic (doing problems) but willing to accommodate each student's method of learning. My main priority is for you to succeed!
Most of my free time is spent with my dog and my girlfriend in the downtown area. I live an active lifestyle camping, hiking, playing basketball and anything else outdoors.
UC Riverside - Bachelors, Biology

What is your teaching philosophy?
Each student has different goals and objectives that I cater to their needs. I want to utilize my skills to relay confidence and proficiency in the subject matter and their lives.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I get to know the student. Establishing a genuine relationship is the foundation of a successful path, so he/she is comfortable asking any questions.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Most students just need a small push in the right direction, whether it be organizational skills or better study habits.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
It is always a good idea to set short-term and long-term goals to stay motivated. Also, it's imperative to establish an outlet to unwind and take a break from your studies to refresh your mind.
