Above all, I value the individuality of my students. Far too many young people struggle with academic content and standardized tests, not because they lack potential, but because they're being taught in a way that ignores their unique talents and ways of understanding ideas. My instructional style is based on highly detailed customization throughout the entire process; I don't believe in wasting students' time with anything irrelevant to their needs.
In addition to providing a personalized foundation in content knowledge, I focus intensely on test-taking strategies, creative problem-solving skills, time management, and effective study habits. I also understand that standardized tests and high-pressure academics can be a tremendous source of anxiety. I view tutoring as an opportunity to mentor students through this process so they can actually enjoy learning and reaching their full potential.
For the past five years, I've tutored and taught classroom programs throughout the Chicago area, focusing on ACT/SAT prep, academic subjects, and multiple levels of standardized testing. I also have a strong background as a Reading Specialist, both on standardized tests and in general literacy and reading comprehension. I have experience as a Curriculum Developer for standardized tests as well, particularly in Reading, Writing/Language, and Science.
I graduated summa cum laude from Arizona State University (B.A., Theatre) and am an alumnus of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City.
