Hello! My name is Sara Castro and I am a rising sophomore at Columbia University in the City of New York. I am majoring in Medicine, Literature, and Society while on a premedical track. I lived in Sinaloa, Mexico for the first six years of my life and then moved to the United States. I am passionate about learning new languages, cultures, and holistic medicine. Eating healthy and exercising regularly are a must for me. In my free time, I love to read books in Spanish or go hiking. I mainly listen to music in Spanish and prefer to dance to Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, and Banda.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe students must understand the practical applications of the subjects they are learning. When you are able to put all of the pieces together, you suddenly fall in love with what you are learning. I always like to know why I am learning something and how it is being applied in the real world.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first I will do is get to know my student. We all learn differently, and I want to make sure I prepare and structure the lesson in a way he/she will benefit the most from.
