I am a graduate of Beloit College, a small liberal arts school in Beloit, Wisconsin where I majored in Education (Youth and Society) and minored in Art History. Outside of the classroom, I gained a wide variety of experience working with diverse K-12 youth, from serving as a reading buddy at a local elementary school to running workshops on using I-Statements for middle schoolers and their families to facilitating art conversations and activities for first and second graders. Upon graduating college, I accepted a position with City Year Chicago where I gained a vast amount of tutoring experience. I tutored and mentored 5th graders in math and reading throughout the year. This experience taught me the importance of individualizing my tutoring methods to each student I teach. Through getting to know students and building their trust I constantly worked to address what each of my students needed most and created individualized plans for my students, which made my intervention time with them more effective. I will use this same commitment to each student I work with at Varsity Tutors to constantly push myself to think of innovative ways I can serve them best.
I specialize in tutoring K-12 English and Math, as well as ACT Prep. Although I spent much more time taking humanities classes during my time at Beloit, in my year with City Year math has also become a favorite of mine. I am continuing my passion for math tutoring as a SAGA Fellow at SAGA Innovations beginning in August 2016 where I will be doing math intervention with high schoolers in underserved Chicago schools. I am equipped to apply my variety of tutoring experiences to both Math and English as well as ACT test prep to work tirelessly to help my students excel.
When I’m not working with youth, I am out and about reading, dabbling in the arts and spending time outside. My current favorite hobby is playing top 40 hits on the ukulele. This summer, I want to learn how to skateboard while it’s nice outside!
