I recently graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Neurobiology. I have 8 years of experience tutoring students of various age groups and backgrounds, from middle school ESL students to Harvard biology concentrators. In tutoring sessions, one of my main goals is to convey a love for learning to my students; I believe that cultivating an interest in the subject and implications of the material being studied is the most effective way to master the material (while also enjoying the process!).

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

The most effective way to become an independent learner is to grow to enjoy the learning process itself, and learning is often most enjoyable when the applications and implications of the study material are well understood. As a tutor, one of the most important parts of my job is to demonstrate the application and utility of the subject being studied and thus to teach the love of learning.
