What is your teaching philosophy?
I love teaching and believe that every child can learn. As an educator, I view educating students to be a holistic experience. Too often we forget that during this amazing phase of adolescence, children are learning some of the most important skills that they will need to succeed in the 21st century as adults. Teaching should tap into that curiosity and bring forth discovery. Though these times may be frustrating overall, they should be an experience that children of all ages can gain something from.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I love getting to know people and asking basic questions, but then we are diving in. I'm going to ask you questions about how you are currently receiving math lessons, what works for you and what doesn't; in other words, a learning profile.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By helping students understand how they learn, I will encourage them to become more independent.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I am a positive person, and positivity goes a long way when kids are feeling discouraged. I will also work closely with kids so that they can begin to see growth in small areas. Seeing growth will motivate and encourage students.
