According to Webster’s Dictionary, a teacher is “a person or thing that teaches something; especially: a person whose job is to teach students about certain subjects”. Throughout my time as both a tutor and a teacher, I have come to realize that teaching encompasses so much more than these simple seven words. But before I get into that, first off, I want to start by telling you all about myself! I am a recent graduate from UC Berkeley with a major in Microbiology and a minor in Education in Math and Science. During my time at Cal, I enjoyed being involved in the Calteach program where I was able to attain the skills required to be an effective teacher while also having the opportunity to teach in classrooms around the Bay Area. I currently reside in Boston, where I am a research assistant in an Epigenetics lab. Although the move from sunny California to cold Boston required a little adjustment, I'm loving the opportunity to be surrounded by the best and the brightest. Aside from working, I enjoy hanging out with my friends, hiking, and exploring Boston! Of course another hobby of mine is tutoring students and helping them achieve their true potential. The most rewarding aspect of teaching is the moment when one student is able to look at you and wholeheartedly understands and is proud of the accomplishment he or she made in the classroom. It is that little reward that makes me so passionate about education and thrive to provide students with all I can in order to empower them to go out and reach their full potential.
