I am a graduate of Interlochen Arts Academy, a boarding arts high school where I majored in theatre, and also of Kalamazoo College, where I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology /Sociology and in French. After graduating, I worked for a year as a language assistant teaching English in Martinique; I also spend my summers at Concordia Language Villages, teaching French in a full-immersion camp environment in the woods of Minnesota. In 2015, I earned my CELTA ESL teaching certificate which has allowed me to deepen my pedagogy teaching adults. While I tutor many subjects, I love best those that are language-related -- English, French, reading, writing, and grammar. Since I find it so fascinating to figure out how language works, it’s equally exciting for me to explore those discoveries with a student and help them make the language their own. I am deeply invested in student-driven learning, and believe that taking ownership of one’s learning can be deeply empowering. I’m also a big believer in arts-integrated learning and the truth that mammals learn by playing. In my spare time, I read and write poetry, do theatre work, hike/bike/kayak/swim, decode song lyrics in languages I’m learning, and spend time with friends.
