I have always had a passion for education, no matter the subject or content area. When I was in the sixth grade, I had the idea to become a teacher; I have enjoyed that decision greatly for the past several years of teaching. I have previously taught high school Geometry while living in Arizona, and currently am teaching 8th grade Algebra in the Denver Public School district. I have my masters in Differentiated Instruction, which lends itself nicely to teaching students in one-on-one sessions and finding more individualized lessons. When I think about teaching, I try to focus educating the whole student, not just improving their abilities in mathematics, but rather what is going to make them a well-rounded adult, that has the mental fortitude to work through difficult challenges. Many of my students leave my class with a strong understanding of mathematics, as well as a great depth of wisdom about the world around them. Having worked at the college level in the admissions office, I have a clear understanding of what skills and experiences a competitive college applicant needs in order to receive an acceptance letter. Through continued tutoring and time spent with a pupil, I feel that I can improve not only a student’s subject related abilities, but also their outlook on how to continually improve their lives.
