I'm an educator with 9 years of experience teaching elementary through middle school with a focus on my own personal passions - reading and writing. I have a Bachelors degree in Journalism and a Masters in Education so you can be certain I am a lifelong learner myself! In tutoring sessions I strive to motivate my students to see that they really can be strong writers and readers, even if they don't particularly love the subject area. My sessions are catered to student needs and we work on both weaknesses and strengths, setting goals that are measurable and attainable.

In addition to teaching, I founded an after school Literary Arts magazine at my Middle School, helping to foster a love for writing and art, and giving students authentic opportunities to celebrate and publish their work. I make it a point to show students that what we work on in school is not in isolation to what occurs outside of the classroom. It's these connections that truly make learning fun.

Whether in need of homework help, essay writing (all styles), reading comprehension, or a specific need, I am happy to help your child succeed.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that learning should be fun. Regardless of whether it is a subject that you hate or love, the best way to learn is to get excited about what you are doing. I strive to help my students see the various perspectives they can take on the work they have to do, and encourage them to take the road that makes the work more enjoyable, since that path also tends to provide the best results.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

In a first session with the student I get to know my students and their learning styles. We also take some time to discuss strengths and weaknesses, as well as things they love (about school) and dislike.
