¡Aprende español! Do you want to speak Spanish? If so, I'll be happy to help you, I have experience as a teacher and love it.
Why you should learn Spanish?
Spanish is growing in usage. International experts estimate that by the year 2050, the U.S. will be home to the largest Spanish-speaking population in the world.
Why to schedule a lesson with me?
Because when I start a lesson I want my students to be able to communicate with me, as a teacher, I have discovered that people learn in different ways. Most people are visual learners, there are others who are kinesthetic (I am) and others are a combination of two or more of the learning styles.
I prepare my lessons based on your learning style, needs, age and level, besides, after our first meeting (start-up) I will prepare a lesson plan just for you, and you will see the topics, objectives and exercises. After one month of lessons, I will provide you a summary which will include in detail your weaknesses and strengths speaking Spanish.
Don't you think that it will be better to have a summary than a number? I charge a competitive rate, please contact me and together we will earn the highest marks!
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching policy is based on respect and understanding; each student is different, so is important to listen carefully.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first thing that I would do is to get to know my students, and listen to their needs and concerns.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
By teaching how to focus.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
At first, know the student; it is important to know his background and how he/she has struggled in the past.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
By helping him understand the importance of the subject in real life.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student to stay motivated by learning through different activities, not only one, so he/she will see that the subject is practice and can help him/her on our daily lives.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would relate the concept to real life. I would also use analogies. I have found out that they are really helpful for those concepts difficult to understand.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would apply different techniques such as recording them, counting words read within one minute, among others.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
It depends on the learning style; typically at least two, such as visual and writing. Sometimes discussion is the best way.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
I encourage my students by noting what they are doing very well or improving on. I think it is important to make them believe in themselves and notice their strengths.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
The first step is to monitor their knowledge and needs. I ask them and start speaking in Spanish so I can have a good idea of their needs; I also ask their problems at school or work (depending on their age).
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
I adapt by preparing the material to them. I spent time working on the lesson and planning what I will give to them. I truly believe that I have to build a good experience for them.
What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?
It depends on my student; if he/she is visual, I will prepare a presentation; if they are kinesthetic, I will provide a game or exercise through movement.
