My passion for learning feeds my love for teaching. I have 4 years of experience tutoring privately for the SAT, ISEE, SSAT, as well academic writing, math, and science to elementary through high school age students. I studied Literature and Written Arts at Bard College where I wrote a novel as part of my senior thesis. I've worked as a test prep tutor at an agency and helped many students dramatically raise their test scores. Additionally, I spent two years working at a Teen Help Center, counseling and mentoring teens during difficult times. I'm empathetic, patient, and enthusiastic. I truly care about my students and how they connect to the material we're learning.

I have experience teaching the Critical Reading and Writing portions of the SAT one-on-one to students. I teach strategies to break down the reading comprehension passages into manageable parts as well techniques in close reading. I've developed take-home materials that I assign students after lessons to help with memorization of key SAT vocabulary words and grammar rules.

I have experience teaching for both the English and Math portions of the SSAT. I've developed strategies that break down intimidating questions into a simple step-by-step process.

I started working as a writing tutor 6 years ago. My speciality is essay writing and thesis development, but I have worked with students in everything from elementary writing to advanced college essays. I teach students how to structure their writing and make use of transitions for clear and concise results. Knowing how to organize your thoughts in writing is an invaluable skill for students of any age.

My goal is to work with each student, in a custom-tailored manner. I believe that a learning experience can be both effective and enjoyable. I emphasize building strong personal study practices, which include time management, organization, commitment, and perseverance.

I look forward to hearing from you and working to reach your full potential!
