Exercises that allow me to evaluate the individual's learning style.

Provide them with strategies and mental tools that fit their learning style.

Focus on small successes rather than overall shortcomings.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Break the skill or concept down into smaller parts and work through them one step at a time.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Emphasize taking your time and taking notes in order to retain the information read.
How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?
Show them that they are skilled in that subject by focusing on small successes.
What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?
Asking the student to explain how they arrived at their answer.
How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?
Break down the subject and build upon areas of understanding.
How do you evaluate a student's needs?
Open conversation with the student in conjunction with evaluation of practice problems and explanation of their answers.
How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
As a tutor, I am responsible for matching my teaching style with the student's learning style. This is part of the opening evaluation of the student's needs and learning style.
