What is your teaching philosophy?
I want to share the joy of learning with my students. Basic skills of observation, organization, visualizations, along with asking the right questions are vital to the learning process and ensure a lifetime of success. More important is having fun through the process! When learning is fun it becomes both easy and enjoyable. Through my years of teaching I've learned techniques that make learning fun.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I think it’s always important to put the student at ease. I like to ask them what was their favorite thing they did that week. I also like to let them to know it’s okay to ask questions, and no questions are wrong.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Teach them to ask questions, visualize and explain things in their own words. Ask them questions that stimulate their thinking. Help them unlock the keys to learning, which means navigating through a growing mass of internet knowledge. I like to teach effective use of search tools and learning to choose sites based on verifiable sources.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Find out what they love and help them see how what their learning relates to what they love.
