I am interested in helping students thrive academically and assist them on their preparation towards having a successful academic experience before college. As someone who has challenged myself with difficult courses throughout my schooling career, I can contribute my learning experience and also my tutoring experience to help my next tutee. I am particularly interested in teaching mathematics and Mandarin Chinese. I attended Duke University where I was a TA for the statistics department so I am well-versed in step-by-step explanations.

What is your teaching philosophy?
Never ever underestimate the motivation of kids. It's amazing what kids can do and accomplish if they are properly motivated and challenged. Learning requires logic, problem solving skills, and persistence, all of which are traits that can become habitual and help you through any challenge.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
Introduce ourselves, talk about the challenges of the course being taken, study habits, and assessing where we can begin to improve.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Having study skills that are learn-able, transferable, and that can become habitual are key to becoming an independent learner. These skills can be applied to any situation. A few of these skills might include resourcefulness, persistence, logic, and patience.
