What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe the main purpose of education is to allow children to grow into productive and functional citizens of society. Children should become responsible, accountable, and understanding of the consequences of their actions. They must also learn how to make good choices and be aware of their surroundings. Children can learn how to make better choices by applying skills to real life through progressive education, incorporating play and active learning into an education setting, and becoming knowledgeable of different subjects through a multicultural curriculum.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would first have an assessment ready for the student to complete to see what areas the child needs most assistance with. Also, I would have a discussion with the child and parent to figure out what needs are to be met for that particular child.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I can help a student become an independent learner by making learning engaging and enticing.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would incorporate the student's interests into their learning.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would try my best to try to approach a subject in various different ways, because each student learns through a number of avenues, such as visual, auditory, kinesthetic, etc.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I would try to teach the student a number of reading comprehension techniques, and help them break up a reading passage as best as possible.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
I find using all forms of strategies together the most successful. Visuals, hands-on activities, and auditory strategies seem to be the most effective when working with a student.
