Hi, My name is Connor Hopkins and I am a senior at the Colorado School of Mines. I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. I have been a TA at Mines for 3 years now and I have to say that it is one of my most favorite experiences at college. I truly enjoy teaching and helping students reach their learning goals whether that is making an A on this next class or improving a GPA through multiple classes. If you think that I would be a good fit for you please feel free to contact me.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to have the student first show me their original thought process before I offer suggestions so that I can more effectively help them through the problem.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would try to get to know the student so that I can work with their interests to facilitate the learning process.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The most effective way that I found to make a student an independent learner is to improve interest of the subject so that the subject becomes enjoyable and not just a chore.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Showing the student that they are always capable of improving so that they motivate themselves to continue working.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Make a correlation to another skill or concept that they have a much better understanding of, then return to the original problem.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know your students is key. If you can understand their interests then you can provide a more productive learning environment.
