What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I like to get to know the student a little and understand his or her personality. Then I ask them what they have the most trouble with, and I then like to teach them the whole concept and get down to the very roots, because that lays down a foundation for preparing the student to fully understand the problem. I like to have the student try to figure out the problem themselves, and help them along the way. This way the student can build confidence in themselves and erase any doubt in themselves.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I would explain the concept to them usually by helping them visualize the concept or problem. Lots of people prefer visual learning these days, because the picture of the concept tends to stay in the head longer than uttering words repeatedly to themselves. Visualizing a problem with either pictures or videos is the best solution to helping a student learn a particular skill set.
