I spend most of my day working in theatre, as a stage manager and a drama educator. The reason that I have fallen in love with theatre is that the people around me are excited about learning- about each other, history, psychology. We encounter a different world every time we approach a new piece. That is also why I enjoy tutoring so much- I get to discover how other people learn and find ways to get excited about new material with them.

I feel grateful that I was often able to fit myself into the worksheet-and-test culture of the American public school system. However, the things that I remember being most excited about were the things I learned dynamically, as a result of teachers who were invested in both me an in the material. I loved history because I would devour historical novels, I finally grasped supply and demand through an interactive “Mini Society,” and I believe I remember more facts and tidbits from plays I was in than from all of my textbooks combined. That is what worked for me, and I work to find what method of learning works for each student- even if it takes many tries and a great deal of patience.
