Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

"Don't let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game."

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Discuss goals and expectations, start out with practice problems, and walk through key concepts.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Tell them my way of tackling problems as well as how to improve study habits.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Always reward them on what they do correctly, and encourage them to find a different way to solve a problem in order to improve.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Try to teach with a different method to break the problem down for them to understand.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would slowly read the sentences together and have the student explain to me what the sentence said. After every paragraph, I would have them summarize what the paragraph was about.
