I am an Economics major at Pomona College in sunny Southern California. Originally from Chicago, IL, I was born and raised in a low-income neighborhood, where my brothers and I had limited access to educational facilities. Having wanted something better for myself and my life, I strived to succeed, despite the conditions that I was forced to live in. Knowing how difficult it can be to strive in such conditions, I set out to help other students, that like me, had grown up in low-income households. By my senior year of high school I had become a mentor and tutor. I provided them with tutoring in a variety of subjects, ranging from Biology to Spanish 4.
Upon successful completion of my High School career, I was given the opportunity to be a part of the Posse Foundation's 10 scholar cohort at Pomona College. This amazing opportunity allowed me to be the first in my family to successfully graduate from H.S. and the first to attend college.
As a tutor, I aim to teach my student so that they can understand, rather than having them memorize facts. I aim to make learning fun and engaging by incorporating activities that help students retain information, while having fun!
