Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I love to teach using a Socratic method-- ask questions and encourage full participation. Talking through the subject whether it's math, reading, Spanish, or anything is always more helpful than a lecture.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Get to know them! Seeing where their strengths are and weaknesses, then attacking subjects in a holistic view first.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Start with explanations, and have them take notes. Give them practice on their own after helping them a bit. Even if they get it wrong, we can work backwards and see where they struggle.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Encourage them when they get something right; don't yell when they're wrong.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

Break it down or explain it in a different way. Sometimes, a change in perspective is all it takes.
