I am a scholar of English literature planning to begin my PhD at UCLA this September. I earned my BA (summa cum laude with University Honors) and my MA from Brigham Young University. While I have been tutoring informally for years, my formal teaching experience was from 2013-2015, when I taught six semesters of freshman writing and rhetoric at BYU. As a tutor and teacher, I create entertaining and educational strategies to engage my students, such as spotting rhetorical fallacies in commercials, analyzing song lyrics, and using Harry Potter to teach difficult concepts. I strive to offer substantive positive and constructive feedback for all student work; I love to praise students for what they do well, and I take care to explain what must improve. To me, education is the single most valuable way to enhance life, which is why I choose to teach English.
Since my expertise is in English literature and writing, my favorite subjects to tutor are writing, ESL, ACT English, Reading, and Writing, GRE and GRE literature subject test, English, and so forth, but I also tutor Algebra, French, and the rest of the ACT. When I'm not teaching, I love to cycle, rock climb, and cook with lots of veggies or lots of chocolate.
