I began my career in education as a tutor. As a college student at Howard, I woke up early on Saturdays to work with my small group in math. While I can't say that I loved waking up early, I loved working with my kids! After that I was hooked. Helping students feel brilliant was something I had to do every day!
So, after I graduated from Howard University with a Bachelors in Business Administration, I received my Masters from Georgia State University in Early Childhood Education. I taught 5th grade math, science and writing. I then transitioned into working with struggling students in small group and coaching teachers. I love giving my teachers strategies to help students feel smart.
While coaching teachers is my role, I never stopped tutoring because there's nothing like hearing my kids shout "Ohhhhh!" after doing math they never thought they could handle. I think most kids struggle in math because they think they can't memorize all the steps. I work hard to help students find strategies that make sense to them. When my students see that there are so many ways to get to the answer, they become mathematicians.
When I'm not teaching, I am building towers or playing train sets with my toddler! We have a blast. I love singing. I prefer to be curled up with a good book over shopping. I enjoy dinner with friends or my husband. Game nights are my favorite. When the weather warms up, my favorite place to be is the beach or the pool. Love being in the water!
I'm looking forward to working with you. Can't wait to help you see how smart you truly are!
