Emily

I earned my bachelor’s degree in English with a focus in writing from Randolph Macon Woman’s College. During my junior year I studied abroad in England where I was instructed in writing using the Cambridge and Oxford style essay construction approach. My time in England allowed me to travel in Europe, and this began a love of traveling and meeting people from across the globe. My senior year of college I worked as an international student Orientation Leader and Mentor, and in the spring, I interned at the local high school as an English language tutor for immigrant students. After graduation, I worked in the service industry and also made time for a trip to New Zealand and Australia, while earning a certification in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) and Teaching Pronunciation from Oxford Seminars and Eastfield College, respectively. I used these qualifications to journey to the city of Krasnoyarsk, in Siberia, Russia, where for two years I taught English language comprehension classes and exam preparatory classes focused on argumentative style essays and mathematical analysis essays. I taught group classes of children, teenagers, and adults, and I also was engaged as a private tutor through the language school where I was employed. I am currently a student at the University of Texas at Arlington working towards my Masters in Linguistics, which I intend to use to continue teaching English language at a private or public school. I am also employed as a reading comprehension and vocabulary teacher at the Nepali Cultural Center in Irving. I have traveled to 15 countries including Lebanon and the Czech Republic, and I love reading, coffee, shopping, tech gadgets, creative writing, and singing karaoke in my spare time.
