I graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business where I obtained a dual degree in International Business and Marketing, with a minor in Journalism and Mass Communication, and a concentration in Entertainment, Media & Technology. As the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, I grew up speaking Mandarin Chinese and had the unique experience of growing up in seven different states and attending Swiss German schools during my teen years in Switzerland, where I became fluent in German and French. I recently returned to the U.S. after spending three years in Taiwan, where I tutored students of all ages in English (vocabulary, grammar, conversation, writing, literature), French, German, standardized test prep (SAT language tests, TOEFL), literature. I have been certified with Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language proficiency after studying intensive Mandarin at National Taiwan Normal University’s Mandarin Training Center. Since I consider myself somewhat of a global citizen, the subjects I’m most passionate about teaching are anything related to words and communication such as English grammar/writing and foreign languages.
I have over five years of tutoring experience teaching elementary/junior high students, SAT classes for high school students, college students, working mothers, business executives, and medical professionals who want to improve their oral and written language skills. One of my favorite aspects of private tutoring is getting to know the way my student learns and finding out ways to maximize their learning potential and develop their confidence. I like to establish a sense of trust and mutual respect with my students so they feel comfortable communicating openly with me. I’m passionate about helping youth around the world and giving a voice to the voiceless so I have served as a mentor for South African underprivileged teens and have done pro bono work for a nationwide anti-human trafficking non-profit.
Fun fact: I love trivia and competed as a contestant on Season 9 of the TV game show “Who Wants to be a Millionaire.” My professional experience also includes e-commerce, digital marketing, and business development for tech startups and corporations. I previously worked on a U.S. presidential campaign and am a current events junkie. Besides traveling around the world, playing tennis, and rooting for the New England Patriots, I enjoy singing and have performed backing vocals for several professional musicians in Taiwan. I fell in love with figure skating as a child and am Michelle Kwan’s biggest supporter.
