I earned a Master of Education degree from Eastern Washington University with a focus in Literacy and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Central Washington University. I have taught public school in Texas and Washington State - 9 years teaching music (elementary music, band, and choir) plus 2 years 8th grade English and a year of High School Spanish, Drama, and 8th grade Social Studies. I have also taught private beginning piano, trumpet (beginning to advanced), and clarinet lessons. I have taught online in Houston, Texas since 2009 all middle school subjects - 5th to 8th Science and Social Studies, plus 6th and 7th Math.
My educational background has been focused on literacy and I find myself drawn to science and social studies at the upper elementary and middle school levels. I strongly believe in education as a means to both appreciate and improve life. As a learner myself I love to learn new things - I love young adult literature, read a lot about science in my spare time, and am an amateur radio operator. I have performed semi-professionally with my trumpet and have sung in various choirs, too.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
The first session would be about getting to know each other. I think stories are a great way to break the ice - I like to use a lot of humor in my stories, and I try to make them very engaging.
