Kristen

I am a current graduate student at the Harvard School of Public Health in the department of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Before this, I graduated from UC Berkeley in Northern California with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology and then worked for two years in San Francisco in public health and psychiatric research. I have experience tutoring when I was a high school and college student, mainly in elementary and high school math and test prep. I volunteered as a mentor in college to local elementary school kids, visiting and helping with homework after school. My strengths are in math and science, and my goal is to help students prep for standardized tests, which I know from personal experience can be very scary and stressful for a lot of students! My style will vary slightly with every student, depending on what that individual needs. My hope is to work side by side through the tough areas, working on both testing strategies and content, and hopefully building both competence and confidence. I will help explain things in new and clear ways so the student doesn't just see the answers, but sees how we reached them. I find that patience and understanding are a great way to get through to students, so I do my best to be fun and positive while making sure I am meeting the student’s special individual needs. Outside of work and school, I enjoy live music, stand up comedy, hiking, playing soccer, reading, and traveling.
