I am a caring and patient tutor who genuinely wants to see my students reach their goals. I've been working professionally as a tutor for the last three years, and have a wide range of experience working with students, from elementary age children through college level adults. I am qualified to tutor a wide range of subjects, including math, reading, writing, and sciences, from grade school through college level. I have received a Bachelor's degree in Science in Biochemistry (minors: philosophy and chemistry) from Louisiana State University. I also have extensive experience in basic science research, with a published paper. The combination of my real world work experience with my strong academic background allows me to make complicated information more relevant and understandable for my students.
My favorite subjects to tutor are chemistry and math, because I love seeing my students gain a foundation of understanding that allows them to solve new problems more easily. I also enjoy tutoring in English because I believe that communication skills are absolutely imperative to success both in life and in virtually all careers.
Regardless of the content, my teaching style is to break larger concepts down to a level that the student is comfortable with. Every student has some background and understanding, and forming connections between what is already known and what needs to be learned is crucial. No subject is too basic for me, and I always meet my students where they are. As a tutor, I believe in all of my students, and build confidence just as much as skills. With the proper support and training, any student can build their knowledge and skills over time.
I have a wide range of hobbies, including swimming, cooking, writing poetry, reading, hiking and being in nature, and playing the French Horn. I enjoy meeting new people, and have had a great time working with students in the past. I have helped students improve their grades and build their confidence in Texas, Louisiana, Florida, and finally now in New York City!
