I just graduated from the USC Rossier School of Education in December 2014. My major was TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). I also received my BBA degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 2012. During my undergrad studies, I traveled back to China every summer break to tutor elementary school students in English, and I received positive feedback from both the parents and students. During my last year in undergrad I was chosen to serve as the Vice Provost's assistant in the International Affairs Department. My primary responsibility was to assist the Vice Provost in recruiting more qualified international students. Also I gave presentations to the new international students about life in America and English study strategies. These experiences helped me learn good ways to learn and teach English. After graduation from college, I went back to Shanghai to start my career, where I worked as a Business Assistant in a company which was headquartered in Germany. During that time, I handled all business cases in English to serve customers from all over the world, and I also helped the company to translate many important documents for display during exhibitions. Based on my hard work and performance there, I was chosen by the manager to give my Chinese colleagues English training, which received good results. The English tutoring and teaching experiences inspired me to pursue a degree in education, so I decided to quit my job and came back to U.S again for a master's degree. During my master's study, I am interning at Kaplan Language Center of Whittier College, which is a institute to prepare international students to enhance their English proficiency and study at a college level. I also interned at Foundry Academy in Walnut to teach Chinese over my Spring Break of 2014. In addition, I have been a Mandarin Chinese Instructor for an after-school program at Mark Keppel Elementary School in Glendale since January 2015. In February 2015, I was hired as an ESL substitute teacher at Language System Institute in Alhambra. Based on my working knowledge and experiences, I am comfortable tutoring all age levels. The subjects I tutor are: Mandarin, ESL, grammar and mechanics, and public speaking. I am most passionate about tutoring Mandarin and ESL. My tutoring style is friendly and student-centered, and I like to put everything in an easy to understand manner so that students will be comfortable and interested in learning. I always like to get to know the students better and make connections with them, because I believe the trust between student and teacher will lead to the best learning outcomes. In my spare time, I like traveling the most, because it helps me to see more and get closer to nature. I also like working out, it helps me to clear my mind and release stress.
