I am a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. I received my PhD in English with a specialization in Women’s and Gender Studies. My areas of interest include Twentieth and Twenty-First Century American Literature, Cultural Studies, and Ethnic Literature. I taught college classes in English Composition and Literature for twelve years, and just recently left the university and moved to Chicago. In addition to teaching at the University of Nebraska, I worked as a writing tutor at a community college and loved the experience. I mostly worked with non-traditional students ranging in ages 17-70, many of whom use English as a second language. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Writing and Literature. In my experience, a lot of people fear writing because they think they’re not good at it. I enjoy trying to ease this tension because I see writing as an art and a way to express how we feel about ourselves and the world we live in. One word at a time and the piece will come together; I promise. I believe education comes in a variety of forms, and as a tutor I do my best to meet you where you’re at. Working with a tutor doesn't have to be stuffy and dry, and it doesn't even have to feel like work. I think that most learning evolves out of having a conversation about the work we’re being asked to do. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, yoga, and playing with my two little dogs.
