Sherna

I am a Professor of English for Richland College and Professor of Humanities for University of Phoenix. I hold a undergraduate degrees from Southern Methodist University and a graduate degree from University of Texas at Dallas. I have served as a College AP Reader for ETS so I know what it takes to write an essay. I teach dual credit classes and many of my students are part of the Collegiate High School at Richland College.

I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA), and maintain a private Voice and Piano studio. I teach all ages and know the value of individual instruction.

I was born in Arkansas, but moved to Texas as quickly as I could, where I currently work as a soloist, section leader, Music Director, Stage Director, Choral Director, and producer of a recital series entitled “My Soul Music”. I enjoy an extensive performance career which requires that I sing opera, musical theater, gospel, r&b, blues, and jazz. I also have a band called Sherna Armstrong Band. A recent solo project, also entitled, “My Soul Music”, reflects my unique ability to perform a diverse palette of music equally well.

Recent roles include Lady Day in the Denton Theater production of “Lady Day Sings at Emerson Bar and Grill”, Lily, in “Porgy and Bess”, with the Dallas Opera, Alice, in "Big River", with Garland Community Theater, and troupe member in Theater of Love, with MBS Productions (she was also Music Director). Recent band and solo performances include the grand opening of the new Dallas City Performance Hall, City Arts Festival, Garland Mayor's Inaugural Gala, the Professional Football Players Mother’s Association Fashion Show and Fundraiser (hosted by Angelique Tégé and Michael Irvin), the City of Garland’s Mosaic Festival, and the Mu Phi Epsilon’s Library Recital Series.
