### Joanne

I was born in Rochester, NY and graduated from the University at Albany, NY with a degree in math and an MBA in human resources. After spending years in human resources management, I now work as an instructor and an academic coach for the Maricopa Community College District. I’m certified by the National Tutoring Association as an Academic Coach, and I’ve tutored high school students and worked as a substitute teacher for middle school. I am the mother of young adult identical twin daughters and live in Phoenix, Arizona with my husband, Roger, and our dog.

I am a published author, so I enjoy tutoring reading and writing at all levels. I also tutor math grades K-8 and help students prepare for high school entrance exams. I like to apply my education and experience to help students develop their skills, do their best work, achieve their goals, and ultimately find learning enjoyable. My approach is to guide and encourage, listening carefully to find successes we can build on. Before jumping in with solutions or suggestions, I strive to see how far the student can develop an answer or approach on their own. Finally, I like to be the kind of tutor and coach that touches my students’ hearts, not just their minds, using what I’ve learned from my parents, godparents, teachers, Girl Scout leaders, and other mentors.
