I received my Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech, and continued on to receive my first Master's degree, also in Aerospace Engineering. I will graduate this May with another Master's degree from Georgia Tech in Earth and Atmospheric Sciences, with a concentration in Space Physics. Currently, I am an adjunct professor at Georgia Perimeter College teaching Environmental Science. As a graduate student, I had the opportunity to work as a teaching assistant for both undergraduate and graduate level courses. Both in my TA experience and my current teaching positions, I find that working one-on-one with students is the most rewarding aspect of my job. When working with students, I use a wide variety of teaching aides to help access a student's individual learning style, including videos, white board demonstrations, and hands-on manipulative experiments. I strive to help my students understand the big picture and where their knowledge fits into the bigger picture by bringing in real-world examples and problems, highlighting the current state-of-the-art research, and participating in external events such as the Atlanta Science Festival. I try to bring a love of science to all areas of my life, including my church and politically affiliated groups. I find that space science, and science in general, is universally fascinating, and I seek to foster that inquisitiveness in all my students.

Q & A

What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that students learn best when they can connect an equation or abstract concept to real life situations- like understanding why your driving reaction time affects your stopping distance in different weather conditions.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I start by asking students what they think their strongest skills are- focusing on what a student does well can help build their confidence, especially in math and science.
