I received my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Language and Literature from California State University Dominguez Hills, as well as California teaching credentials for Spanish and English composition. I am currently working on my Master of Arts in English Literature at the same institution.
Over the course of my twelve year career, I have taught Spanish to elementary and secondary students. I have also worked as a supplemental instructor at CSUDH, conducting workshops for improving English composition skills. In addition, I provided one-on-one tutoring at the university writing center sponsored by the English department.
My subjects are English grammar and composition (all grade levels), elementary and high school Spanish, elementary and middle school Math, and Algebra I. I also work with students taking the AP Spanish Language, AP English, HSPT, ISEE, and PSAT exams. Of these, my favorite to teach is elementary Spanish. I love imparting my love of the language through songs, games, and oral activities. My students especially love “Simon Dice”, the Spanish version of “Simon says.”
I favor a hands-on interactive tutoring style. I strive to build on students’ strengths and like to incorporate their interests and hobbies whenever possible. I also work to give students strategies to take ownership of their learning process. The more proactive students become, the better they will do in the long run.
I love to learn languages, and one day hope to master Italian. I also like medieval literature. I am currently reading the original stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. I am a big fan of older TV programs, such as The Twilight Zone and Perry Mason.
