I am beginning my 13th year of teaching. In that time, I have taught a variety of students starting with adjudicated juvenile delinquents to public high school students in a small, rural town in Iowa and now at one of Texas' largest high schools. During that time, I have taught various subjects such as Reading, Writing, World Geography, US History, World History, Government, Economics, and Psychology. For the last 3 years, I have proctored the SAT test. I enjoy working with students of all ages and the challenges and enjoyment each age level brings. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my son and reading.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students can learn. What's important is determining how a student learns best, and showing them how their learning is valuable beyond test scores and grades.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I am easy to get to know, and can feel at ease and make others feel at ease with any personality type. I like to spend a bit of time just getting to know the student on a personal level in an effort to break the ice and build trust. If possible, I also talk to the parent or guardian about school success or struggles, and what exactly they want to accomplish through tutoring. I will also do an initial assessment to best plan our future sessions.
