I am a graduate of Rutgers University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in
Psychology from Douglass College and my Masters in Special Education from the Graduate School of Education. Currently, I am seeking further certification to become a Learning Disabilities Teacher Consultant. Since graduation, I have tutored students at every grade level! I spent four years teaching reading, writing, and math to students in first through fifth grade in both resource room and inclusion settings, and I am now teaching students one-on-one from grades Pre-K through high school in a hospital setting. The needs of my students vary greatly, ranging from students who are non-verbal with Traumatic Brain Injury to high school students taking advanced level college preparatory classes. Personally, it has been so rewarding to use my skills as a teacher to help these students succeed. Professionally, these experiences have helped me become a more versatile teacher. As a special educator, I am well-versed in many tools and strategies that aid students to not only learn concepts more fully but to understand how to apply their knowledge to any situation. I always tell students that a task may seem hard at first, but if you have a strategy it will become much easier! My tutoring strengths include instruction in phonics, reading comprehension and fluency, elementary math, and essay writing, but I'm open to tutoring at any level. My methods are multi-sensory in nature, which means that students use multiple parts of their brain to ensure they will learn the information, and I am certified in a multi-sensory phonics program called PAF (which is based on Orton-Gillingham). My philosophy of education is to not only give children the tools to succeed and help them achieve their goals, but to inspire them to ask questions, seek out the answers, and learn to love learning. In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, traveling, and spending time with my family.
