I received a Bachelor's of Arts Degree with Honors from Brown University, where I studied English with a focus in Nonfiction Writing. I have worked with students and young children in a range of capacities over the last 5 years: my experience includes peer-to-peer mentoring, acting as a magazine editor, coordinating writing workshops, and student advising. I love working with students of all ages on Reading Comprehension, Essay Writing, Creative Writing and the mechanics of spelling and grammar-- after studying Creative Nonfiction for all of college, I am a master at the College Essay. I am also a veteran Latin student, with 7 years and 2 APs under my belt, and tutor Latin levels 1 and 2. Finally, I teach all subjects of the SAT and the ISEE standardized tests. I find learning by doing to be very effective; while I will always challenge a student to grow in each session, I also strive to create a supportive environment that encourages asking questions and making mistakes. I find that a good sign a student understands a concept is when he/she can explain it back to me, as though I were the student. When I am not tutoring, I do some writing of my own, as well as volunteer at Project 826CHI. In my free time, I love to sing, read, and scuba dive. I am hoping to find a way to explore the depths of Lake Michigan before it gets too cold!
