Si (Simon)

I am a native Chinese speaker from the Northern province in China. I immigrated to the US when I was 14. I am now living in the Orange County area, and hope to provide various students help in the Chinese Language! Whether you are a beginner or an advanced speaker, I assure you that I'll teach you something new - from basic pronunciation to rare Chinese proverbs that only a few understand, I have your Chinese tutoring needs covered!

Throughout the years, I've taught a wide range of students. My first Chinese Language session was in 2008. I taught a class of 25 students ranging from 8 to 14 years of age. At first I was nervous because it was my first time teaching and didn't know what to expect. However, I felt much more confident after the first session. My students were good learners; they loved the lesson which certainly made my day. After the first session, I became more confident in what I teach and taught more students.

My pedagogical method is simple. I shall first teach you pronunciation of Chinese. For beginners, this is certainly something new. For advanced students, it can be a good review. Next, I'll prepare vocabulary and grammar lessons for the advanced students. This ensures students learn new concepts of the Chinese language on a day-to-day basis. Finally, I will emphasize Chinese calligraphy (the Chinese characters). Of course, I'll be patient with the students. I won't stop until you understand the lesson. If possible, I can bring a few Chinese clips or films for students to watch. I find these visual aids can make learning both fun and enjoyable.

In addition to Chinese Mandarin, I'm also capable of teaching students Russian. Although I'm NOT a native Russian speaker, I did learn the language for 4 years and earned myself a certificate in a travel and study program. For Russian, we will start with the 33 Russian Cyrillic Alphabets. Next, we will learn pronunciations of each sets of letters. Then, we'll work on vocabulary. Again, if any students are in need of either of these languages, please let me know!

During my spare time, I love to travel, play my harmonica and ocarina, sing songs in Chinese and Russian, and cook delicious Chinese food! If you are looking for a well-rounded tutor to ameliorate your stress in Chinese or Russian, I'm the tutor for you.
